Girls R.O.C.K Leadership Camp

Girls R.O.C.K Leadership Camp is a unique camp experience designed to give rising 7th and 8th graders opportunities to be role models for young campers, develop confidence and leadership skills. Girls R.O.C.K Leadership Campers will spend two weeks as a CIT (Counselor-in-Training) where they will spend their days with campers, support them with math projects, plan fun camp activities, play games and make art!

Girls R.O.C.K is right for you if:
  • You have been a Girls Rock Math camper in the past and want to keep participating in the program
  • You have just discovered our program and want to be involved with Girls Rock Math but have aged out of our programs
  • You are interested in becoming a counselor when you are in high school
  • You are interested in helping our youngest campers in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade
  • You are passionate about STEM and want to share that passion by being a role model for younger girls
  • You want to build confidence and leadership skills

The commitment for this program is 2 consecutive weeks of camp at a cost of $350 per participant. With minor exceptions, the camp sessions will be as follow:
  • Session 1: July 8 – July 19
  • Session 2: July 22 - August 2
  • Session 3: August 5 - August 16

There will also be one day of required training for new Girls R.O.C.K. Leadership Camp participants. You can choose to attend on May 4th or May 18th.

FAQ's

What will I learn in the program?

At Girls R.O.C.K. Leadership Camp you will develop R.O.C.K leadership skills. This stands for Responsible, Outspoken, Creative and Kind. You will have guidance and support from staff in helping out with camp, being a role model for young campers, and building confidence. You will have multiple opportunities to practice and reflect on these skills within the camp setting while also having fun!

Why is there a cost to the program?

According to our insurance policy, middle school students are still considered campers. Middle School students are still required to have consistent adult supervision within state ratios which we need to consider when staffing sites with CITs present. We love and appreciate all the CITs do at camp, but the guidance provided by our staff does take extra time, training and support. Our Girls R.O.C.K Leadership Camp fees cover the extra training, materials, insurance and other costs associated with the program.

If you are interested in a scholarship please email leadership@girlsrockmath.org

Why is the program two weeks? What if I cannot do two weeks of Leadership Camp?

We feel that two weeks is just the right amount of time to really get a full experience from the program. One week of camp goes by in a blur! We have found that because of the large learning curve in transitioning to the CIT program, often participants feel most successful partway through the first week. Participating in 2 weeks will allow CITs to feel strong and confident entering their second week, providing an even better experience the second week. Additionally, the Site Directors will be leading the CITs through a program that includes lessons and reflections on leadership and their camp experience. This curriculum will include higher levels of support in the first week, then will hand more responsibility off to the CITs for the second week, allowing them to get more opportunities for practice in developing these skills.

If you for some reason can only do 1 week of camp, please email leadership@girlsrockmath.org

What if I was already a CIT last year?

If you participated in the CIT program last summer, fill out the application and we will begin the process to schedule you. In most cases, you will not need to submit references or complete another interview.

What if I didn’t attend Girls Rock Math as a camper?

If you’re new to our program that’s ok too! We’d love to have you participate so you can experience the fun of Girls Rock Math and hopefully become a counselor in high school!

What is the application process?

A parent/guardian will apply online and provide three references with the initial application.

Then, our Leadership Coordinator will check the references provided and reach out to applicants to schedule phone or zoom interviews. After these steps are completed, if selected, the future Leadership Camper will be given a schedule based on the preferences indicated on the application (location, dates, etc.) and training dates. After your session is scheduled, the parent/guardian will receive a link to officially register for Girls R.O.C.K. Leadership Camp, pay for camp and sign waivers.
